#SOURCECODE
In this project we learned about genetics, coding and how the two go together. The project started out with lectures about evolution, traits, and DNA. After we understood the basics of DNA, we jumped into coding. As an introduction we learned how to code in Python using Codcademy. Then we split up into our groups to really begin the project. We worked in groups of four of five, each with an Artist, Biologist, Bioinformaticist, and Project Manager, some groups had more than one of a role. In our groups we created a program that would take someone's DNA and compare it to the DNA from one thousand other people.

My role in this project was that of a bioinformaticist, I was one of two in my group. My job was to take care of the code. Coding was very difficult; like learning another language. This project took me out of my comfort zone because I have never done anything like coding before. I also think that this project will help me even after I graduate. Coding is growing in importance, and I am now considering going into this field.

Below is the Python file containing my group's code. Before we could compare our person's DNA to that of the thousand other people we had to reformat the file with our persons genetic data. The first part of our code takes the information we needed from that file and stores it, the second half rewrites it in the format of the second file.
